Kids go cycling – A Club Offer for our family members and their children!

We need to ascertain how many members would like their children to come on a Club Trails club ride circa 20k around 1.5 hours.

A few of our experienced off-road members have kindly offered to help me run a few sessions but, frankly, I don’t want to ask we put a lot of time into it if there is no demand.

The age of the children will most likely be 8 – 13 years. Under 8 will struggle and over 13’s may find it too easy and get bored.

You’ll know your children best. If and when we do run the session(s) we will need a parent consent form for each and every child for each and every event – regardless of whether a parent attends or not.

For the under 10’s we will require a parent joins the ride to accompany their child. For those children aged 11 and above that requirement is optional.

Please let us know if you have any interest in this.

The FCCC Podcast – Urgent Request for Help Please?

Given the different ways there are to place FCCC on the world map I would like to tape our guests for posterity by making a podcast of the ‘audience with’ evenings.

Is any member(s) technically ready, willing and capable of helping me record the interviews and turning them into podcasts that we can publish.

Please write to me at Chair@FCCC.org.uk if you can help.

I need help for the first recording which will be on Friday July 29th 2022.

Thank you, Paul Hosemann

Incredible Stories to tell…

As an author and film maker (albeit unknown for the majority of you) I am interested in story telling so it comes as no surprise as I speak week by week to our members that many of you have incredible stories to tell.

I’m asking a few of you to be my guests at the Club Nights and allow me the chance to entice you into telling your story to the members.

Whether it’s being an ex-pro rider, a stunt jumper, a recent LEJOG rider, representing your country, record holders of some shape or form, a sports editor in a newspaper or weekly sporting journal or being a national champion I’m slowly finding nuggets of you everywhere I turn.

I am always looking for more guests so if I haven’t found you yet I will or, to make things simpler for me, just contact me and let me know your story and whether you’re willing to be my guest at a future Club Night.

I’m already looking for guests for 2023.

Trust me when I say many of our members really do want to hear your story.

It requires no preparation on your part at all. You just have to sit down with me and pretend no one else is in the room and tell me your story. I’ll be by your side the whole time.

Kids Coaching – Places Available

Farnborough and Camberley Cycling Club (“FCCC”) is pleased to be able to offer kids aged 5 to 12 places on our British Cycling Go-Ride coaching scheme for junior riders known as the ‘FCCC Flyers’.

Our next set of sessions start on 11 June 2022.

We provide weekly hour-long classes that are fun and informative, teaching children to progress from the earlier stages of riding through to skilled riders via our programme of classes run by British Cycling fully qualified coaches.

At FCCC Flyers your children’s safety and welfare is our primary concern while we teach them not only how to ride safely but also with confidence.

The sessions run every Saturday from 1pm to 2pm at Rushmoor Borough’s Recreation Ground at Moor Road, Farnborough, GU14 8HW, where we use a combination of tarmac and grass surfaces together with the use of a small Pump Track to run the sessions.

The cost is £30 for a block of six lessons. For a block booking for two children we offer a discount (£50 instead of the usual £60).

We are a non-profit cycling club, and all money raised goes towards promoting cycling activities in the local area.

Some feedback from our Facebook page on recent sessions:

Andria – ‘The FCCC Flyer Kids were out giving it their all…learning…improving and having a wonderful time, well done.

Dave H – ‘My daughter’s riding has improved astronomically because of these courses.’

For more information see our PDF download and fccc.org.uk/kids/

To book, email kids@fccc.org.uk or speak with our head coach Gavin Watson on 07958 442501.

Local MTB XC Racing

Club members Chris Brown and Robin Kamiya raced in the Gorrick Spring Classic MTB XC round 1 event at Highlands Farm, Frimley Green last weekend.

Chris has kindly passed on some photos of him having fun in the race, astride his shiny new bike.

The club has a thriving and growing group of off-roaders who get involved in social rides as well as racing of various sorts (MTB XC, MTB Enduro, Cyclocross etc), under the stewardship of off-road secretary Conor Boyle.

Whether you’re an experienced off-roader or new to it, if you’d like to get involved with club off-roading, or some advice about how to start, then you can drop Conor a line at offroad@fccc.org.uk
