Club Nights – We are still in the virtual world and if you’ve missed the last 2 excellent bike maintenance presentations by Carl White then please do and go check out the new Maintenance page in the Members’ section of the website to watch the video recordings, and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.
Off-Road Club Rides are up and running again! The monthly club rides restarted on 28 June and this weekend there’s a big ride in the Peak District, too late to join but a taste of what you may be missing. Check the club’s Off-Road WhatsApp group (email offroad@fccc.org.uk if you would like to be added to this group), website forum and members Facebook group for further details of upcoming rides.
Time Trials are Go, but only for FCCC Members! – Our TT Secretary, Donald Ashton, posted the latest update on the resumption of Club Time Trials (Type B events) on the website forum on 24 June – you can view a pdf version without having to log in to the website by clicking here.
Unfortunately, the social distancing guidance rules out the next few scheduled club TTs (due to the size/positioning of the start areas) so our first club TT will be on 6 August on the HCC257 course, and the Club’s 10 mile Championship will follow on 13 August on the HCC216a. However, as Donald says, we will need volunteers to help with the extra burden imposed by Covid considerations so now is the time to step up and help otherwise these events cannot go ahead. Please email timetrials@fccc.org.uk if you can help.
You can see the full list of original schedule of Club TTs here.
Detailed instructions will be posted on the Club’s media (Members Facebook, website Forum and TT WhatsApp group – email timetrials@fccc.org.uk if you would like to be added to this group) so keep a lookout and get ready to sign up on-line.
Road Racing – We are very hopeful that outdoor racing will re-commence at the beginning of August, subject to British Cycling and Government guidance. However, if you are Zwift enabled, do not despair because we are organising members-only club races on Zwift. Get in touch with Luke Stratford at roadracing@fccc.org.uk to join our WhatsApp group and join the fun. We are also very pleased to announce that the Road Race Chain Gang rides are restarting, please contact Luke for details.
Road Club Rides – Unfortunately, the latest guidance from both the government and British Cycling means we are not be able to resume our traditional Sunday and Wednesday club “turn up and ride” events from the Bridge, so these remain suspended.
However, we would very much like to encourage our members to set up their own rides of up to 6 people, in accordance with current government guidelines, so if you want to lead a small ride (4 seems ideal but please only a maximum of 6) make yourself a “ride leader” and put it up on the members FaceBook group or website Forum. Look out for details coming soon about a shared online library of club routes for all members.
