We've had queries about the date of the club championship. Hit 'Read more' for the background.
The 25 club championship was originally scheduled for September, but when we got there the two county councils (Surrey and Hampshire) had deposited hundreds of cones along both carriageways, making riding the event impossible. This was done without any notice being given.
The cones have now been removed and replaced with new road markings in Hampshire, but nothing has been done in Surrey. It would seem that this was one of their highway authority 'experiments'.
The earliest opportunity to assess the new layout and its impact on events was a week ago, and therefore the revised date for the championship was announced at that point.
I am aware that this has caused problems with both open and club events, the alternative course being H25/801, which goes over Four Marks and turns at the Bishop Sutton roundabout. Needless to say, this is not a popular course with the riders, although there was a request to use this course by one member who could have ridden in September, but not in October.
The new road layout is not as the council promised at a meeting with CTT earlier in the year and, as usual, takes little regard for vulnerable road users. The impact of the changes is still being assessed with a clear change in traffic patterns on the A31 being apparent.
Sorry for any inconvenience this caused, but the circumstances were outside of my control.
Donald - TT Secretary
