Tune in to BBC Radio Surrey on Wednesday at 12.40pm to hear the inspirational story of club member Helen Wiles who will ride in July the 300 miles from London to Paris. She is doing this in aid of Action Medical Research - a charity funding research to help children's illnesses.
What is truly amazing is that in the last year Helen has almost halved her body weight! In January last year she weighed more than 22 stone and by taking up cycling she has lost more than 12 stone - an incredible achievement !
She joined Farnborough & Camberley CC in 2010 and has steadily built up her fitness to get ready to take part in this tough four day event. Helen says : "I feel great now I've lost the weight and exercise for me is the key to maintaining it.......now I want to push my body like I never could before....."
This event is part of Action Medical Research's programme aimed at female cyclists in the UK. They also run one day womens' rides as part of the Diva 100 series. You can sponsor Helen at www.action.org.uk/sponsor/helenwiles . This will go to support work around meningitis and cerebral palsy amongst other childhood conditions.
Find out more and how to take part in the ride at www.action.org.uk/paris and support our inspirational lady rider. You can hear the interview on iplayer, at about 42 minutes for another couple of days.
