London to Geneva Cycle Challenge Follow Up

You may remember that I posted an article about the London to Geneva Challenge earlier this year. I asked David how it went and this is what he said:

It was probably one of the most exhilarating rides I have ever done. The camaraderie was fantastic, they were a great bunch (77 to Paris, then 8 plus me to Geneva plus another 13 who did Paris to Geneva making 22 in all to Geneva).

In terms of ability I was well up in the class from London to Paris and could take on many of them when sprinting for hills and bashing along the good bits. The group to Geneva were a bit more serious, had trained harder and whilst I did not disgrace myself by any means, there were manywho could give me a run for my money. But, it was not a race and I was never that late to the top of the cols (it was just the long ones such as the last day with two 1350m climbs at around 7 to 8% that I just dug in and took my time over!).

At the top of the last one we all had to group up before the long drop down into Switzerland and Geneva and they had formed a tunnel for me to ride through as I was last up.

That evening at the celebratory dinner they awarded me a bottle of Champagne for being an inspiration to them because being 73 going on 74, the next oldest was 50. It was great.

Next year they are talking of extending it with a further leg to Nice and I am sorely tempted.

I have so far collected around £1300 for the Children's Hospice so I am pleased about that.

Chapeau David!

There is still time to make a donation to David's sponsorship page
