If you've ever kicked around the idea of racing, cyclocross (CX) is a great place to start. The competition is friendly, the crashes are slow and used bikes can be picked up reasonably (or races can be done on a mountain bike).

If you are interested in racing with the club, or are interested in skills sessions or mixed-surface training rides, email Josh Orlowski.

The club is officially affiliated to the Wessex Cyclocross League.

Click here for a sampling of races in the area.

If you want to learn a bit more about CX, then this article from road.cc is a good starting point - Everything you wanted to know about cyclocross but were too afraid to ask

British Cycling also have a CX section on their website, with several videos demonstrating how to ride various types of terrain, how to carry and shoulder your bike, etc. Check it out.
