Surrey League 4 Up TT
This 34 mile event will take place on the combined Alfold/Kirdford Circuits and the HQ is at Alfold Village Hall on 6th September 1:30pm.
The teams can be Mens, Womens, Mixed, Vets, Juniors, Under 23, etc.
If you would like to take part or are able to help coordinate a team for the event, please contact Bob
A couple of members have been injured in serious crashes recently and that's a reminder that our sport can be dangerous. One thing that can be done to reduce the risk is to ensure that your equipment is in good condition.
We have been contacted by a member that was concerned that other members are going out on rides and even joining TTs with bad equipment - in the case brought to our attention, severely worn tyres. This poses a hazard to other riders and road users. As the reporter said:
"Common sense dictates that we ride our bikes in the best condition possible, the highway code re-iterates this. I'm sure any insurance would have washed their hands of this if it had become an issue. If fact if a car had been involved then the claim would almost certainly have gone against our member, and rightly so."
Dick has pointed out that CTT rules, under which our TTs are held, state:
"CTT Handbook Page 324 14. Competitor's Machine.
Every competitor must ensure that his machine is so constructed, equipped and maintained as to be capable of being ridden on the road safely at all times and in all conditions.
Also at (e) Tyres shall be in good condition and tubular tyres shall be securely attached to the rims."
Please make sure that the condition of your bike is not a factor in safety and be aware that ride guides and TT or club officials (timekeepers or others) are likely to deny you participation in an event if you arrive at the start with equipment that, in their view, is not suitable, or adequately maintained, or might pose a question about safety.

We have received a mail from Ian Salisbury about a proposed holiday village in Blacknest. He has concerns about safety if the development goes ahead as planned and this might affect those attending TTs on H10/8. Comments on this can be posted here or contact Ian(at)bearfootgraphics.co.uk
Social Secretary Needed
Sadly, because of a job change, Kim can no longer continue in the position of Social Secretary for the club. Thanks to her and Stu for the efforts they have put in on social events and in getting the ball rolling for next year's Annual DinnTer (which has been booked!)
That means that we're looking for someone that would like to take the role on. If you might be interested, contact Bob.
We got this message that there was a meeting on Thursday about acccess to military training areas. Thanks to Richard Barnes for sending this information:
"TAG have reported on the meeting http://trailactiongroup.co.uk/
The main message for cyclists is that :
- The MoD have had legal advice that if they´re ever asked about cycling on military training land they must reply "cycling other than on metalled tracks is illegal under the 1976 byelaws and the definition of a metalled track is a tarmac road such as Bourley Road"
- Whilst they have to repeat the party line, they did say they would be enforcing it by requesting riders to move on. If the rider was disruptive "again and again" then a 'warning off notice´ would be issued, if it happened again, another 'warning off notice´ would be issued but it´d be up to the police to do anything more (they share the notices with the police)
