2013 08 01 - Thursday Club Time Trials
23 out, including 11 club members, but some horrible headwinds!
Road Racing & TT Coaching
Nigel has started to run these courses on Wednesdays as well as Mondays because of weather disruptions - the first Wednesday session is today, 7th August. Tonight's session is about riding in the wind and dealing with crosswinds. Even if you missed the first sessions, you would be welcome!
Starting Monday 15th July @ Eelmore (19:15 - 20:15) Nigel Fletcher (BC Level 2 Coach) will be running a 5 week "Introduction to Cycle Racing" course. The course is intended for those club members who are looking to take part in cycle road races and would like to develop the techniques needed to take part safely and with success.
Riders must have a minimum of two years group cycling experience and possess a racing bike, clipped pedals & shoes and helmet. These sessions will also be open to those that have completed at 4th category or gained their 3rd category licences and are looking to improve their race tactics and techniques. This course will not be addressing fitness.
Numbers are limited to 20 and pre-registration is necessary, for insurance purposes. (We are planning to do this on the website - watch for more details!) Initially, let Nigel know.
Each session will last an hour and will consist of a warm up, an instructional and practical session followed by a cool down and de-brief.
Topics to be covered during these sessions will include;
- Riding in a bunch, (group riding)
- Race Cornering techniques and positioning
- Sprinting & attacking
- Working in a break
Spinning for Free at the Arena
The Arena Leisure Centre at Camberley is setting up some new training using HRMs to monitor spinning. They are offering half a dozen free sessions on a specified weekday between 12:30 and 16:30. They need people that expect to attend most or all of the sessions so that they can track data.
If you might be available and interested, contact Bob and specify any restricted days or preferences.
Congratulations to all those that took part in the Ride London event - it seems to have been a success and well organised.
In particular, congratulations to Elka and Kirsty (regular Sunday riders) who made it round and have been raising money for the Phillis Tuckwell Hospice, in honour of Elka's mum. Over £1,500 has been raised and you can add to that total here.
Farnham RC 4-up and 2-Up
Congratulations to the FCCC team on the Farnham Road Club event this weekend and thanks to Paul for some excellent photos - the originals are in the gallery. (Official time was 1:01:03).
Bike for loan?
One of our junior members had his bike mangled by a car over the weekend. Fortunately, his injuries are not too serious.
He is taking action against the motorist with support from BC's legal helpers.
However, in the meantime, he doesn't have access to a bike. Has anybody got a 51cm frame road bike that they are able to loan? If so, can you contact Nigel?
Magazines looking for a home - Update
Update - There are still 2 boxes of Cycling Weekly if anyone is interested.
Contact me if you would like to get contact details.
We have been contacted by a local cycling enthusiast who is downsizing and has a large collection of cycling magazines going back to the '60s and onwards. Titles include UK and continental (International Cycle Sports, cycle Sports, Bici Sports and some French mags Miroir, Velo, Winning as well as Cycling Weekly etc).
He has two big boxes of mags plus three "big carrier-type bags" as well.
No money is expected, but he would like them to go to someone that would be interested.
