New Junior Hill Climb Championship
The club's hill climb championship takes place at Holybourne near Alton on Saturday 21st September, and is open to all members. This year we will be recognising a Junior Club Champion, so it would be fantastic to see everyone compete. To take part you'll need to get a parental consent form completed and signed and brought along on the day.
The normal Saturday morning junior ride will therefore meet at 13:00 and we'll ride out to the hill climb and ride back.
If you are interested in competing or just coming along to watch please let Nigel know.
2013 09 12 - Thursday Club Time Trials
Congratulations to tonight's winner, Richard Justice, who flew in from New Zealand especially for this club event.
He is on his way to Italy for the Worlds as part of the New Zealand Team.
New Welfare Officer
Sadly, because of new work committments, Donna is unable to continue as Welfare Officer for the club. Although, her activities may not have been 'visible' to most members , she has done a huge amount of work behind the scenes to prepare the club for the launch of the FCCC Flyers. On behalf of the club, I'd like to thank her for her contribution.
It does mean that we are looking for another Welfare Officer, preferably from the ladies in the club, as BC specifically recommends a male and a female Welfare Officer and Alan is already the Deputy Welfare Officer.
We are also still looking for a Ride coordinator - contact Bob. This is mainly a communication and coordination role - you don't need to lead rides!
Go Green in Rushmoor
Thanks to Ron, John, Dick, Martin, Brian, Stuart (anybody I've missed) and especially Donna for representing the club at the recent Go Green in Rushmoor event. They were able to give a chance to pedal furiously to around 70 children and adults during the day and we are optimistic that it will help to boost the membership of the club and support for Nigel's Junior coaching and the FCCC Flyers.
Cyclocross Season Starts
We received this info:
Subject: Cyclocross league starts this Sunday
It's September. According to the MET office Summer is officially over but it doesn't feel like it right now. Irrespective the cyclocross season is now under way and the first meeting in the London and South East Cyclocross League was this Sunday down by the sea in Brighton at Stanmer Park.
Club Contact – VC Jubilee
Nigel has sent this information. I will get it into the calendar when I can:
- Experienced Juniors will be able to attend the Sunday 10:00 social ride.
- Juniors of 12 or over can ride club TTs, but need to complete a parental consent form before the ride.
- Juniors under 12 can be the 'stoker' on a tandem.
05 09 13 - Thursday Club Time Trials
A good warm night and some quick times.
New Club Race Captain
The committee has established a new position in the club, of 'Club Race Captain'.
- This is an honorary post, awarded on an annual basis by the committee. It is not a committee or club officer post.
- The role of the captain is to represent the views of the active racers in the club and coordinate their requests and needs for coaching, support etc.
- The captain will be welcome and encouraged to attend meetings of the competition sub-committee to put forward the views of active racers.
- The captain will be appointed from active road or circuit racers in the club.
The committee has unanimously decided that Gareth should be asked to be the first Club Race Captain, and I'm pleased to report that he has accepted the position.

Ladies Ride - Saturday 7th Sept
Unfortunately, Gill can't act as navigator for the ride next Saturday, although she hopes to be 'back in the saddle' in October.
If any of our other lady members can help, please contact Bob.
