Clubman of the Year
Congratulations to Nigel Fletcher for winning the Clubman of the year award. As some of you know, Nigel has put in a lot of effort to establish the junior section, run coaching sessions and run the road race (among other things!).
The other two candidates, were also very worthy nominees. Martin does a huge amount of work on the clothing side as well as running his regular rides and helping with TTs (among other things!). Ron leads many rides, helps with events and ran the Christmas 10.
Thanks to all three for their contributions.
2014 01 11 - Saturday Club Time Trial
12 riders out, which is good for January!
Clubman of the Year Award
The club has a "Clubman of the year" award. This award, according to the rules is
"Awarded to the member who, in the opinion of club members has rendered the greatest service to the club in the past year, such opinion to be expressed by a ballot of members".
Traditionally, this has been voted for at the Annual Dinner, but as the growth of attendance at the Dinner has not matched the rate of growth of the club, it has been decided to run the award by a ballot on the forum.

Holmes and Watson in hot pursuit
"The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist" was a Sherlock Holmes story set just six miles from Farnham in Surrey, and Holmes and Watson were spotted in "hot pursuit" in the same area this weekend!
Fifty riders took part in the annual Farnborough and Camberley Cycling Club (FCCC) Christmas Time Trial this Sunday. Riding 10 miles from Bentley and back in times from 21 to 45 minutes.
The winner was Justyn Cannon of the RAF Cycling Association who completed the course in 21 minutes and 43 seconds, but the fancy dress prize went to John Allen and David Eccles of Redmon CC who competed as Sherlock and Watson - and managed 2nd place in the Tandem class with a time of 26 minutes 45 seconds.
I have uploaded some pix to the gallery
The club has a Sportive trophy for the member that rides the most miles in the year to the end of November. We have a claim for 1,767 miles. If you have a claim for more miles in Sportive or audax events, please contact Bob urgently with details of the rides.
Family Ride - 28th December
I got this note from Nigel...
I'm going to run a family junior ride on Saturday 28th December where I would like to invite mums and dads, brothers and sisters along for a gentle ride to a cafe. Route will be on cycle paths and minor roads stopping for a mince pie and a drink. I would like everyone to register in advance so I know how many. (Go here and click the "I will attend the event" option)
I'll need a couple of volunteers depending on the numbers to shepherd everyone.
AGM - and Proposals
The club's AGM will take place on Feb 7th, in place of the normal club evening. According to the club rules, proposals for the AGM need to be in the hands of the Secretary, Chris, before 17th Jan.
Reading Track - Busy!
Dick has warned that the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings have become very popular. As there is a maximum of around 60 (!) allowed for safety reasons, some riders have been turned away in the last couple of weeks. If you plan to go, get there reasonably early!
Following the success of previous events, he committee has also decided to support (financially!) four sessions per year for members at the track that will mean an opportunity for formal training and coaching in group riding. More details will follow.
p.s. the new track season will start on 20th March 2014.
