Road Race May 12th
As you may have noticed, we have been taking a number of actions to boost competition by club members and to support those that are getting involved. Part of this is to encourage road racing. As an affiliated club to the Surrey League, which is part of the support for riding, we are required to run an event. This needs a number of volunteers to help by marshalling at junctions and the number has increased this year because of changes to the course needed because of roadworks.
- If we can't get enough volunteers, we will have to cancel the event, which will disappoint a lot of riders that have booked and will cause us trouble with Surrey League
- We now have the volunteers we need for the morning. Thanks!
- In the afternoon, we need just 2 more
- We currently have more than 140 members that have not yet volunteered (and if you are in that number, you will probably be contacted individually if we can't get the numbers)
- It's fairly simple to do and you will get a briefing as well as getting a chance to see some racing
- This is a simple way to give something back to the club
You don't have to give up a Sunday ride - why not ride out in the morning for the afternoon event?
If you need more information, or want any details, contact David, otherwise you can book here for the morning race, here for the afternoon.
Thanks to Nigel for sending through details of the course. It's attached, but you'll have to download it here as attachments don't show on the front page.

CTC Calls for Support of 'Get Britain Cycling'
I got this through today and thought some members might like to respond - (BC are taking the same line)
==================================================
- aim for 10% of trips by bike by 2025 and 25% by 2050, and
- £10 per person, per year in funding for cycling
Clothing Reviews
I have set up a new section in the forum. Members can post comments to topics to comment on club kit that they have bought. Please only use the forum for reviews of the kit. For stock enquiries and other discussion, please use the main clothing forum.
I will be adding some more items, but if there are any you would like to see, let me know.
2013 04 18 - Thursday Club TimeTrials
A good turn out with 16 riders!
Scheme for Support of Open TT & Race Riders
We are putting together a scheme to reward those that are taking part in open TTs and in racing. In the longer term, rewards for the current season will be based on the result for the previous season. However to get things started, we are making an up-front offer.
Where riders commit by the end of April in each year (but this year by May 15th as we're late to get things going!) to either
- Riding in 6 open TT events
- Riding in 6 race events
the club will refund either (for TTs), half the cost of entry and for road races, half the cost of a BC licence or Surrey League membership fees. In the first year, the maximum amount claimable for TT riders is £50. Note that the committment has to be made by April or May, but the rides can be done anytime during the year (before or after the committment).
Riders that intend to apply, should advise Bob that they intend to take part and then submit evidence to Dick of participation and cost once they have done the 6 events. Riders should be 'of good standing' - that is to say they have to be paid up members and met membership requirements. They should also compete in club kit.
We plan a wider scheme to reward competitors and helpers next year.
Level 1 Coaching?
As many of you will know, Nigel is doing a lot of things to get a junior section going. We do need to increase the number of those able to supervise and help with these activities. We want to increase the number of Level 1 coaches. Details of the qualification are here. The club has some funds to partially subsidise the cost. If you are interested or able to do this, contact Nigel.
We are also looking for more people that may be happy to help with rides, rather than formal coaching. This might involve a short (1/2 day) course on protection and a CRB check. If you are interested, contact Donna.
